advice on writing a polite letter to my neighbor about her horrible yappy dog?
My next-door neighbor (we live in an apartment) got a dog before Christmas and the thing barks constantly for hours on end while she’s gone at work. We’ve talked to the landlord twice about it. The first time he said he would get back to us about it; the second time (a month after the first time) he said he’d have a word with our neighbor, which succeeded in her putting the thing back into the bathroom. The bathroom shares a wall with ours and makes the barks echo loudly toward us. I’ve decided to write a polite letter to her about the dog. I know some others won’t agree with me on a polite letter, probably thinking I should say "you’re a b*tch and so’s your dog" but I don’t want to make an enemy of someone I plan to continue living by. If this is your advice I am not interested. She’s a very nice neighbor and we’ve never had any problem with her. Anyway, this is a rough draft of what I’ve got so far, so tell me what you think. If you think there’s something I should include, please tell me. I don’t write letters very often and I’m not especially tactful either (that’s my husband’s department!) so good advice is appreciated. Thanks!
"Mary/Dear Mary,
This letter is about your dog. I’m not sure you realize it, but your dog barks incessantly while you’re at work. They are not occasional barks that happen every once in a while, but constant barking for hours on end. I feel like after more than a month it has become a problem. My husband Glen does work overnights and has to sleep during the day, so we have to find ways to cover the noise."
You know, now that I’ve typed it out it isn’t coming across quite as polite as I hoped it would. This isn’t the whole letter as I would like but I’m not sure how to politely say "your dog is driving me F**KING CRAZY!!!!" I’m also not sure whether I should say we’ve talked to the landlord twice. The dog did destroy the blinds (they came with the apartment) and he saw that, so I was hoping that would be enough for him to tell her to get rid of it. I want her to get rid of the dog but I don’t want to explicitly say that in the letter. I need advice!!!
What you have written down sounds polite to me. But, nice neighbor or not, she’s not home to hear the darn thing and you live in an apartment complex, not a house, and she needs to understand that too. What if you had a noisy dog yapping all night long to where she can’t sleep? So I’d tell your manager if things don’t start quieting down.
Mr and Mrs Williams | Feb 04, 2010
Dear Mary,
I don’t know if you are aware of it, but your dog has been barking incessantly while you are away at work. If the barks were occasional I wouldn’t have a problem, but the dog barks constantly for hours on end. My husband and I have tried to tolerate the barking, but after more than a month it has began to have a greater impact on our lives. My husband, Glen, works overnights and sleeps during the day, you can see how this would be problematic.
Please do something about your dog. Perhaps Doggy Daycare, a new toy, or a muzzle would solve the problem.
Cole | Feb 04, 2010
I think talking to her in person would be better than writing her a note.
If your landlord hasn’t spoken with her about it, she might honestly not know that her dog is barking all day while she’s at work. I’m sure she would be concerned and want to fix the obvious separation anxiety issues. You can’t make her get rid of the dog, obviously. Tell the landlord that it’s still a problem, and maybe get your other neighbors to complain too.
I really think that talking to her in person is better than writing a note. No matter how polite your note may be, it comes across as kind of passive-aggressive because why don’t you just say this to her face?

What do U think another illegal another life taken Millard County deputy shot, killed?
Police searching for a suspect in the fatal shooting of a Millard County sheriff’s deputy did not find the man in a Salt Lake City shed Tuesday morning and now have added a second person of interest in the case.
Deputy Josie Greathouse Fox was gunned down about 1 a.m. Tuesday during a traffic stop a mile east of Delta, and a statewide manhunt for the suspect had narrowed down to a few blocks of west Salt Lake City.
However, police used tear gas in a shed and travel trailer where Roberto Miramontes Roman was suspected to have been and found no one inside. Roman is described as a 37-year-old Latino, 5-foot-7, 130 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
The second person of interest is Ruben Chavez Reyes, a 36-year-old who may know or may have assisted Roman, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Jeff Nigbur.
Police found a gray 1995 Cadillac Deville connected to the men in Nephi and are headed there to process it for prints and other evidence.
Fox, a mother of two, had been with the Millard County Sheriff’s Department five years. Her body was found by a second deputy, who was responding to her request for backup.
Roman is possibly armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, and is considered dangerous. Anyone with information on Roman’s whereabouts is urged to immediately call 911.
"We have information that he’s not going to be taken alive," Nigbur said.
Roman has a significant criminal history, including drug offenses, and a court-ordered illegal immigration-related deportation.
Millard County officials said the suspect vehicle, an orange Corvette, had been stopped as part of an investigation into recent thefts. The suspect had sped away from the scene by the time the second deputy arrived.
The search the suspect quickly focused to Salt Lake City, where police found a vehicle — believed to be the Corvette — near 300 South and 1100 West.
By 7 a.m., SWAT officers were seen in the area of 300 South and 1100 West. Two local elementary schools — Guadalupe and Franklin — were closed and traffic through the area blocked while officers went door-to-door, searching for the suspect.
Nigbur said three SWAT teams were deployed in the area, focusing on "two or three" homes believed to be occupied by relatives of the suspect. No neighborhood evacuations were immediately ordered, however.
Roman has a criminal history beginning in 1992 with a misdemeanor drug distribution charge to which he pleaded guilty in Fillmore’s 4th District Court.
Then in 1996 and 1997, Roman was charged in Millard County with a handful of felonies in two different cases, including drug charges, receiving stolen property and a weapons count.
He resolved the cases by pleading guilty to one count of third-degree felony drug possession and one count of second-degree felony drug possession with intent to distribute.
Utah Board of Pardons and Parole spokesman Jim Hatch said Roman was sentenced to prison for up to 15 years in June 1997.
Roman was released into the custody of immigration authorities on Sept. 15, 1998, and deported.
Court records show that at the time the crimes were committed, Roman was a resident of Delta. All three cases were investigated by the Millard County Sheriff’s Office.
Meanwhile, in Millard County, law enforcement ordered closure of U.S. 50 in both directions just east of Delta as their investigation into the slaying got under way this morning. The road has since been reopened, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

Yes, it`s a shame and national disgrace that police/ICE and other governmental enforcement agencies start doing SOMETHING only after illegal criminals-who should not be in the country-take a citizens life.Lets hope that that ka-ka head degenerate, does not surrender, but gets blown away-when found by police-and at least saves taxpayers money for his trials, appeals, incarceration, and medical & other expenses.

Do you like this baby name? I made it up my self!?
Jayley. My husband and I are expecting a girl. We are a few months until she comes.
I was thinking of the name Kayley. But my favorite spelling of that name is Cailey.
I was thinking of the name Bailey, I also like the spelling Bayley.
My mothers name is Jane, but I like Jane with a Y as in Jayne.
My husbands mothers name is Leigh.
We wanted to make up a name at this point so we combined the names and changed some letters= Jayley. We want to know your opinion on this name, and I want yes or no and why and I want it to sound good, unlike an insulting sentence like this: NO THIS NAME IS HIDIOUS U ****!.
We want you to include the spellings. 10 points to the best person~!
We chose these middle names, rate it 0 to 10 counting the first name, and we will count up the points and choose the middle name from there:
Jayley Ellen
Jayley Christine
Jayley Faith
Jayley Gretchen
Jayley Susan
Jayley Mary
Jayley Kathleen
We want older like middle names because when she is older, she can be called like that. Suggestions are great too, I will use them for a next question if I like them.

It is pronounced- Jay- Lee!!!

Julia | Feb 05, 2010
I don’t like it. Reminds me of jail…as in prison.
Hap | Feb 05, 2010
I like Jaleigh better. Until I knew what names you combined I thought it was pronounced (jay-lay). But my fave combo is with Faith!
I did the same thing with my daughter. Her name is Jazzlyn Avelle after her grandma Avis and grandma Michelle. I figured the same thing that if she didn’t want to be Jazzlyn or Jazz or Jazzy when shes older, Avelle was a more ‘mature’ name =)
Jayley Ellen- 4
Jayley Christine-6
Jayley Faith-10
Jayley Gretchen-1 (doesn’t flow)
Jayley Susan-1 (doesn’t flow)
Jayley Mary-1 (doesn’t flow)

Celeste | Feb 05, 2010
I don’t like it, sorry…it sounds like it should mean "jailee," i.e. "one who is jailed."
I don’t really like Kayley or Bailey, either…none of those names have any of what I personally look for in a girl’s name…class, elegance, sophistication, beauty, maturity, etc.
Jayley Ellen: 2/10 for Jayley, 6/10 for Ellen. I’ll calculate the overall score by weighting the first name twice as much as the middle…so 2×2 = 4 + 6 = 10/3 = 3.33 for the whole name.
Jayley Christine: 2/10 for Jayley, 9/10 for Christine: 2×2 = 4 + 9 = 13/3 = 4.33
Jayley Faith: 2/10 for Jayley, 7/10 for Faith: 2×2 = 4 + 7 = 11/3 = 3.67
Jayley Gretchen: 2/10 for Jayley, 6/10 for Gretchen: 2×2 = 4 + 6 = 10/3 = 3.33
Jayley Susan: 2/10 for Jayley, 9/10 for Susan: 2×2 = 4 + 9 = 13/3 = 4.33
Jayley Mary: 2/10 for Jayley, 9/10 for Mary: 2×2 = 4 + 9 = 13/3 = 4.33
Jayley Kathleen: 2/10 for Jayley, 8/10 for Kathleen: 2×2 = 4 + 8 = 12/3 = 4

I don’t like it, sorry. I think it’s way too cutesy and trendy and it won’t work on an adult.
Olivia J | Feb 05, 2010
It’s very cute. I feel like I’ve heard it before, but I don’t know where. I would prefer the spelling of Jaylee, though. It’s so nice that your little girl will be able to tell people she’s named after her two wonderful grandmas instead of being named after a car, clothing brand, or football player…
I like the middle names of Kathleen and Christine the best, but Faith also sounds nice with it.
Queen Queso | Feb 05, 2010

How is the poem Death Of A Hired Man by Robert Frost a Modern poem?
Here is the poem
Mary sat musing on the lamp-flame at the table
Waiting for Warren. When she heard his step,
She ran on tip-toe down the darkened passage
To meet him in the doorway with the news
And put him on his guard. "Silas is back."
She pushed him outward with her through the door
And shut it after her. "Be kind," she said.
She took the market things from Warren’s arms
And set them on the porch, then drew him down
To sit beside her on the wooden steps.
"When was I ever anything but kind to him?
But I’ll not have the fellow back," he said.
"I told him so last haying, didn’t I?
‘If he left then,’ I said, ‘that ended it.’
What good is he? Who else will harbour him
At his age for the little he can do?
What help he is there’s no depending on.
Off he goes always when I need him most.
‘He thinks he ought to earn a little pay,
Enough at least to buy tobacco with,
So he won’t have to beg and be beholden.’
‘All right,’ I say, ‘I can’t afford to pay
Any fixed wages, though I wish I could.’
‘Someone else can.’ ‘Then someone else will have to.’
I shouldn’t mind his bettering himself
If that was what it was. You can be certain,
When he begins like that, there’s someone at him
Trying to coax him off with pocket-money,–
In haying time, when any help is scarce.
In winter he comes back to us. I’m done."
"Sh! not so loud: he’ll hear you," Mary said.
"I want him to: he’ll have to soon or late."
"He’s worn out. He’s asleep beside the stove.
When I came up from Rowe’s I found him here,
Huddled against the barn-door fast asleep,
A miserable sight, and frightening, too–
You needn’t smile–I didn’t recognise him–
I wasn’t looking for him–and he’s changed.
Wait till you see."
"Where did you say he’d been?"
"He didn’t say. I dragged him to the house,
And gave him tea and tried to make him smoke.
I tried to make him talk about his travels.
Nothing would do: he just kept nodding off."
"What did he say? Did he say anything?"
"But little."
"Anything? Mary, confess
He said he’d come to ditch the meadow for me."
"Warren!"
"But did he? I just want to know."
"Of course he did. What would you have him say?
Surely you wouldn’t grudge the poor old man
Some humble way to save his self-respect.
He added, if you really care to know,
He meant to clear the upper pasture, too.
That sounds like something you have heard before?
Warren, I wish you could have heard the way
He jumbled everything. I stopped to look
Two or three times–he made me feel so queer–
To see if he was talking in his sleep.
He ran on Harold Wilson–you remember–
The boy you had in haying four years since.
He’s finished school, and teaching in his college.
Silas declares you’ll have to get him back.
He says they two will make a team for work:
Between them they will lay this farm as smooth!
The way he mixed that in with other things.
He thinks young Wilson a likely lad, though daft
On education–you know how they fought
All through July under the blazing sun,
Silas up on the cart to build the load,
Harold along beside to pitch it on."
"Yes, I took care to keep well out of earshot."
"Well, those days trouble Silas like a dream.
You wouldn’t think they would. How some things linger!
Harold’s young college boy’s assurance piqued him.
After so many years he still keeps finding
Good arguments he sees he might have used.
I sympathise. I know just how it feels
To think of the right thing to say too late.
Harold’s associated in his mind with Latin.
He asked me what I thought of Harold’s saying
He studied Latin like the violin
Because he liked it–that an argument!
He said he couldn’t make the boy believe
He could find water with a hazel prong–
Which showed how much good school had ever done him.
He wanted to go over that. But most of all
He thinks if he could have another chance
To teach him how to build a load of hay—-"
"I know, that’s Silas’ one accomplishment.
He bundles every forkful in its place,
And tags and numbers it for future reference,
So he can find and easily dislodge it
In the unloading. Silas does that well.
He takes it out in bunches like big birds’ nests.
You never see him standing on the hay
He’s trying to lift, straining to lift himself."
"He thinks if he could teach him that, he’d be
Some good perhaps to someone in the world.
He hates to see a boy the fool of books.
Poor Silas, so concerned for other folk,
And nothing to look backward to with pride,
And nothing to look forward to with hope,
So now and never any different."
Part of a moon was falling down the west,
Dragging the whole sky with it to the hills.
Its light poured softly in her lap. She saw
And spread her apron to it. She put out her hand
Among the harp-like morning-glory strings,
Taut with the dew from garden bed to eaves,
As if she played unheard the tenderness
That wrought on him beside her in the night.
"Warren," she said, "he has come home to di

Why are goods cheaper to purchase in the USA?
Even as a dual citizen, I’m still no clearer why this is the state of play.
e.g. this laptop (I now have to wait to purchase when I’m next stateside) is 840 ish pounds.
Link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as px?Item=N82E16834115679
In the UK, with THAT graphics card & processor, is like 1200 pounds.
I used to purchase all my Honda NSX parts there too (Acura over there but parts the same), for the same reason. I would have shipped an Acura if it had not been too much trouble to change left hand drive to right hand drive - and I did make enquiries!
And I’ll not even go into my extravagant hi-fi expenditure over the years….but safe to say ALL of it was imported, even cables.
So why why why???
Thanks in advance for your answers.
EDIT - I hardly belive VAT alone can justify the price differences we face.
Welcome to rip off Britain………….

The reason the USA gets cheaper products is because they dont get charged VAT (value added tax) which adds 17.5% onto uk products.

guns, they’re not only cheaper in the us but they’re also more legal then they are in the uk

The uk is one of the most expensive places to live in the world and yet i class it almost 3rd world in living standards etc. What a sh.it hole the uk is. The only people to benefit in the uk are the unemployed, single mums and immigrants.

Well, VAT is the main reason because US prices are quoted excluding sales tax. So there’s ?1020 immediately. There is no excise (customs) duty on computers but the carrier will charge an admin fee for processing the VAT. If that’s ?30, then you have a ?150 difference. However, prices are not fixed day by day, so $1350 may be ?840 today, but as exchange rates vary it could have been ?1000 when the advert was produced.
A little comment for "Eat Cheese" - you are right, I know of people in Dafor who are greatful it’s not Liverpool - Not!

Can a tick bite hurt 1 1/2 years later?
Two summers ago, I was in Oregon and found a tick on my head. I believe I got the whole tick out and had my (somewhat) experienced father look at the bite - he said it looked good as far as he could tell beneath my hair. About two months ago, the area of the tick bite feels swollen and irritated - a dull, localized pain. I get a small little headache from the pain, but nothing serious. Should I be concerned?
if it doesnt go away, see a doctor. i dont think anything, like a part of the tick or anything, could survive that long with out you noticeing or it falling out or dying. see a doctor if it increases or doesnt go away in the next few days

DRAWING + PAINTING 11 or LITERATURE 12 ?
What courses should I take to get into an Ivy League School ? ( Dartmouth, etc. )
Here is my Grade 11 Course List.
1. CHEMISTRY 12
2. BIOLOGY 12 HONORS + AP EXAM
3. PHYSICS 11
4. MATH 11
5. EUROPEAN HISTORY 12 AP + AP EXAM
6. FRENCH 11
7. ENGLISH 11 HONORS
**8. LITERATURE 12 O R DRAWING AND PAINTING 11**
In my school you aren’t allowed/it’s not recommended to take more than seven academic courses. My counsellor told me that she knows that I can handle it, but she doesn’t want me to ‘dilute’ my grade 12 percentages and marks.
I want to take Literature 12 and I’m eligible for it but I don’t want to overwhelm myself. I am extremely passionate about Literature, but I also have the option of taking this course in gr.12. I also heard that Ivy League or in general Universities want students who are well rounded. Many people have shared with me that I have an unusual talent in art; so maybe this course will help me to unleash it ?
My question to you is what course would you recommend taking and which would boost my chances of getting into an Ivy League School ? ( specifically Dartmouth c: ) ??
Also, do you think I have a difficult courseload and a typical Ivy Leaguer’s courseload?
NOTE :
Albeit I have many more extra-curriculars, sports and achievements but I need advice with this course selection. I also have a GPA in the 3.5 - 4.0 range.
Thank you for taking the time to answer. I greatly appreciate it !

Can I get some ideas on how to deal with a request from our church?
Last Sunday the preacher asked that everyone who is willing should come forward and pick up an envelope. Inside the envelope could be anything from a piece of scripture to a handwritten card to money. We are supposed to pray to find out what we should do in relation to the envelope’s contents. Mine contained a 3 x 5 card with the words "Living Water International" written on it. I know what this organization is (it builds wells to provide clean water to villages in Africa), and my first response was "Well, that’s easy. Send them some money." But I would like to figure out something else to do. For one thing, we don’t have a lot of extra cash. For another, that is the easy way out. I
